Main characteristics of solid waste
From the analysis of the relationship between solid waste and environment, resources and society, solid waste is polluting, resourceful and social.
Pollution
The pollution of solid waste is manifested by the pollution of solid waste itself and the secondary pollution of solid waste treatment. Solid wastes may contain toxic, combustible, explosive, radioactive, corrosive, reactive, infectious and pathogenic hazardous wastes or pollutants, and even contain organisms rich in pollutants, some substances are difficult to degrade or treat, the quantity and quality of solid waste discharge are uncertain and hidden, and secondary pollutants are generated in the process of solid waste treatment, These factors cause solid waste to pollute the visual angle and ecological environment in the process of its generation, discharge and treatment, and even endanger physical and mental health, which shows that solid waste is polluting.
Resourcefulness
The resource nature of solid waste shows that solid waste is the product of resource development and utilization, and solid waste itself has a certain resource value. Solid waste only becomes solid waste under certain conditions. When conditions change, solid waste may have reuse value and become raw materials, fuels or consumer goods for production, so it has certain resource value and economic value. It should be pointed out that the economic value of solid waste is not necessarily greater than the treatment cost of solid waste. In general, solid waste is a kind of low-quality and low economic value resources.
Sociality
The sociality of solid waste shows that the generation, discharge and treatment of solid waste have a wide range of sociality. First, every member of society produces and discharges solid waste. Second, the production of solid waste means the consumption of social resources and has an impact on society. Third, the discharge, treatment and disposal of solid waste and the pollution of solid waste affect the interests of others, That is, it has externality (externality refers to that the activities of the activity subject affect the interests of others. When it damages the interests of others, it becomes negative externality, and when it increases the interests of others, it is called positive externality. Solid waste discharge and its pollution have negative externality, and solid waste treatment and disposal have positive externality), which has a social impact, which shows that whether it is produced, discharged or treated, Solid waste matters affect the interests of every member of society. Solid waste belongs to private goods before discharge and becomes public resources after discharge.
The final state of enriching a variety of polluting components, and the source waste of polluting the environment is often the final state of many polluting components. Some harmful gases or floating dust are finally enriched into solid waste through treatment; Some harmful solutes and suspended solids in wastewater are finally separated into sludge or residue through treatment; Some combustible solid wastes containing heavy metals are incinerated, and harmful metals are concentrated in ashes. The harmful components in these "final" substances will be transferred into the atmosphere, water and soil under the action of long-term natural factors, and become the "source" of pollution to the atmosphere, water and soil environment. Hazardous waste with high sluggishness and diffusibility, solid-state hazardous waste is sluggish and undiluted, and generally the release rate into water, gas and soil environment is very slow. Soil has adsorption on pollutants, resulting in the migration speed of pollutants being much slower than that of soil water, which is about 1/ (1~500) of that of soil water. The harm is potential, long-term and disastrous. Because the migration of pollutants in the soil is a relatively slow process, its harm may not be found until several years or even decades later, but when it is found to cause pollution, it has caused irreparable disastrous results. In a sense, the harm caused by solid waste, especially hazardous waste, to the environment may be much more serious than that caused by water and gas.
